Flying High in 6A

27th Feb 2026

6A enjoyed exploring the theme of flight as part of Engineer’s Week. They learned about the inspirational female aviator Amelia Earhart in history and literacy.

They then investigated Bernoulli’s principle in science. They learned that when air moves faster it creates low pressure while air that moves slower creates high pressure. Just like how air moves over and under the wings of an aircraft creating an upward push. This is one of the 4 forces of flight called lift. They used a hairdryer and a table tennis ball to prove this and a cardboard tube and 2 balloons.

They then designed a launch pad for their paper planes. They needed something to provide the forward push to move their plane through the air. This is called thrust, another one of the 4 forces of flight.

Finally they enjoyed testing their own designed paper planes around the school. There was a clear winner which glided its way to the finish line. All we need now is somewhere to travel to! Well done everyone.
