Floating Boats!
Well done to the pupils in Class 6B who recently took on the challenge of designing and building boats using materials of their choice. This engaging activity formed part of their STEM learning, with the key objective being to create a boat that would successfully float.
The children demonstrated fantastic creativity and problem-solving skills, using a wide range of materials including wood, plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, balloons, paper, styrofoam, LEGO, cable ties, and tape. There was also a boat made using a 3D printer on display and a boat with a wind up paddle that could self propel through the water. Many of the boats were painted with various designs and there was lots of tape used to waterproof some boats. The effort and thought that went into both the design and construction of each boat was really impressive. Well done everyone!
The project finished with a special presentation attended by pupils from Junior Infants and First Class. The 6B students confidently explained their design processes before testing their boats in a paddling pool of water. It was a fun and memorable experience for all involved showcasing both innovation and teamwork.
