We were honoured to welcome Dan Quirke from The Dillon Quirke Foundation to Bunscoil na Cathrach recently. He visited the school to personally thank the 6th class students for their generous donation of €4,534.50, raised through their Christmas market, to the Foundation.
Dan told the students that the Foundation has now carried out 23,000 cardiac screenings to date, and that their contribution helped them to reach this milestone. He explained that findings from the cardiac screening programme show that 1 in every 300 teenagers screened has a serious cardiac condition that was previously undiagnosed.
He also spoke about the importance of sport for fitness, friendship, and fun. The children shared details of the products they created for the market and spoke about the enjoyment the event brought to the school community.
We would like to thank Dan for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit the school. It was a memorable day for the 6th class students, and they we have no doubt but they will continue to raise awareness for The Dillon Quirke Foundation for years to come.
